Overview
The Canford Pump Station project is designed to return rain and stormwater INTO the river, that gathers on the wrong side of the dike system.
The dikes are designed to keep river water from flooding the town, but they also prevent rain and stormwater from escaping town into the river. This pump station is to return stormwater into the river.
These are common structures in large dike building, for example Grand Forks has 2 large pump stations for the same reason as part of their Flood Mitigation Plan.
This project is a part of the larger system and will not be needed until the dikes are installed. Additionally, we can’t start engineering on this project until we have these associated dikes approved and the alignment verified.
Funding
Several components of the council-adopted 2022 Flood Mitigation Plan remain unfunded, including this project.
The Flood Mitigation Department is actively exploring all possible funding avenues to secure the necessary resources.
